Deshanta takes on the Internet

My first step in bloggingSo this is it… A final leap of faith into the World Wide Web and for love or glory I’ve decided to start speaking out all the things in my head that others should share in and become part of. I’m using the Net as my medium because like others before me, I feel that it’s as good as any place to start spreading the word like wildfire.

I saw this article on News24 the other day entitled “Bill Gates eyes space”, and after reading it I thought to myself that my imminent introduction to the world of blogging in South Africa; can closely be compared to Mr. Gates’ potential journey into outer space.

I mean even though I’ve been blogging for two years now, I still feel a little apprehensive to get online and do it on my own behalf. I used to man two blogs at my former company, where I blogged under two different personas, and more importantly posted entries for corporate gain.

Here I am, taking steps to launch a site of my own to tell my own story and to share my insights into an industry many in SA have come to love and revere. It’s extremely liberating to get the chance to voice my opinions and enjoy the warmth of a community that is ever growing in numbers and stature.

“Because every minute of every day, you’re a part of everybody”

Bill Gates Eyes SpaceHaving worked in an enormously cutthroat industry prior to joining Cerebra, I welcome the idea of knowledge sharing and the sheer camaraderie that can be found in the South African social media space. I must admit it does make working in the Enterprise 2.0 and new webosphere all the more interesting.

I have acquired a new mantra that kind of sums up what I’m about as a person and it’s a pretty simple statement that’s resonates with me on many levels, and this is it: “because every minute of every day, you’re a part of everybody”.

The idea stems from a Nickelodeon television advertisement about Nick2015, and during a particular Web surfing follow-up, I came across the cause for which it stands and that is, a global fight against poverty. It is a United Nations initiative that was born out of the Millennium Development Goals that was laid down in 2000 for our world’s leaders.

Well suffice to say, those words are powerful and have now grounded me in the types of social change and conversations that I’m about to revive with my site and the work that I’m currently doing as a Project Manager and Search Engine Optimization Specialist. I believe the age of SMO (Social Media Optimization) has been born and I’d just like to take my place in the revolution.

I hope that if you’ve read the post this far that you will join me through regular visits to my site, RSS feeds or whichever medium we can connect on. I look forward to seeing you around.

Welcome!

Welcome to Blogosphere!

Nice to see you come on board. Great place South Africa, good mix of people and, off course, Nelson Mandela. You write well, that's something to be proud of. Cheers!
