A Rare Moment...

I'm so excited that finally after a much anticipated wait, I have a d-day for when my braces are going to be removed!

It was such a strange encounter this morning that kinda' threw me off course a bit because upon entering my orthodontist's office block, guess who I bumped into on the way in? Winnie Madikizela-Mandela! It was so strange to have only heard of the good and bad things that Winnie has done for South Africa but to be face to face with her in my own backyard so to speak was definitely a defining moment in my history.

Winnie Madikizela-MandelaI realise that this is quite a small world and that I shouldn't be so surprised about incidents like these as they happen all the time but I guess because it's Women's Month, it put a slightly different point of view across my path, and I was in awe that I could have opend the door for such a stately figure and a lady who had a lot to do with the Struggle that I hold so dear to my heart. Winnie Madikizela-Mandela for those that are wondering, was one of the pivotal figures in the movement against Apartheid.

Anyway upon my realisation that the two men who looked quite business-like, who were standing outside the office block, were actually Winnie's bodyguards, it all made sense why they looked a bit odd just standing there at midday. I was later told that they were just two of the six men that had been stationed around the complex for her great grand-daughter's visit to the orthodontist.

Back to the matter at hand though, I have a total of three weeks left with my silver bling in my mouth and I'm so amped to know what my real smile is going to be like. There's nothing like the feeling of having a gloriously gorgeous real smile and being proud to show it off. That's why I try to do my bit for the organisations out there that that aid children with cleft lips and other facial disabilities because throughout the course of this dental treatment that I've been on, I've learnt the importance and the effect that a smile can have on a person all round, it is truly something special and something to cherish.

Wow! What a chance encounter!

As for the braces.....I know how you feel. I wore mine for 6+ years & felt like a queen with the best smile when they were removed. It is going to be odd at first, but you will be sooo happy! Good luck!
