In Msanzi, on several occasions, I was offered a lot of money to grow my hair so it could be turned into a weave for a colleague’'s wife or girlfriend. I turned down these inappropriate propositions because hair is a spiritual extension of the body in some cultures, including my own (I am Tamil).
I recently attended a workshop on Odawa Foundation Teachings, a representation of the Indigenous teachings of the culture and heritage of the Anishnabek people. It was a glorious exploration into oral storytelling and learning about the history of Indigenous tribes and clans that lived on Turtle Island.
